The integration of Off the Shelf control modules

A wide range of "off the shelf" instrumentation packages have been incorporated into the control systems.  This has required a fair amount of interfacing and with the various units.   In addition to the standard sinking and sourcing signals, Analog to Digital, (A to D) and (D to A) translations have been fairly common.  RS 232, RS 485, and Ethernet communications have been typically used to integrate various types of modules and equipment.

The unit above is a leak checking system.  A number of techniques have also been developed to simplify the control systems for the operator on these and similar types of instrumentation.  Techniques such as building self checking and auto calibration sequences into the control systems have been implemented.  In situations where a part fails to load properly, the control systems have been designed to make a number of attempts before alerting the operator that there is a problem.  These and other "self-correcting" techniques have resulted in some very dependable pieces of equipment.
