  Precision Riveting

This is a side view of a riveting head in a typical machine design.  This machine forms 4 tight rivets in a single assembly.  A number of rivet application projects has also involved the forming of "loose" rivets which are typically found in products like "scissors".  The most challenging rivets to form are "precision" rivets because they require only a slight tension after the forming process is completed.  Because rivets constitute a very stiff "spring" the process to form precision rivets requires a fair amount of finesse.   Please see patents  #7266876#7100272#6796020, #6442823#6161273, and  #5855054 for more details on how to form precision rivets.
