  Vision Recognition Projects

A number of vision recognition systems have been successfully developed and implemented.  These have included such applications as reliably locating and placing very complex parts, to high-speed inspection, to adjustments of optical assemblies, and others. 

The major challenges with these projects is the necessity to interface with the mechanical system, the control system, and the control software.  Beyond these challenges, there is the final task of designing the vision algorithms.   The broad experience of MSI in the areas of the mechanical design, the controls and the machine software, have been critical to the successful completion of these vision recognition system projects.

The picture above shows the measurement of a part that is required to be accurately bent.  As shown, R,S,T, and U are 4 inspection zones.  Because the vision system can capture the image and analyze the picture in a fraction of a second, this application can be installed directly onto the process machine.  This allows for a number of opportunities:  1)  The parts can be inspected in real time.  Thus eliminating any inspection costs, tooling etc. while still inspecting 100% of the parts.  2)  The process machine can be configured to reject the part, retry to the process, or even to attempt to adjust the process to recover the part.  3)  The vision system program can be designed to inspect a family of parts.  Many times the vision system can recognize critical features and automatically determine which parameters are appropriate for the inspection.
