The goal of this project was to automatically align the optical axis of both sides of the binocular with the center mechanical axis. A vision recognition system was incorporated to align the axis.
Before this machine was developed, the process required a trial and error manual process.
A critical element of this project was the development of a 27 step controls algorithm.
The manual alignment process typically took between 7 and 15 minutes. The resulting machine was able to reliably complete the alignment in less than 30 seconds. The operator only needed to load and unload the components.
